Parent Seminar
GT
Online Parent Classes – Summer 2010
• Two courses (25
seats in each):
- Supporting Social
Emotional Needs of Gifted Children (all
ages)
- Supporting the
Young Gifted Child (pre-K through grade 2)
• Courses will begin
July 13th and will run six weeks
• There will be a one
hour face-to-face in order to learn how to use
Blackboard and to make connections with other
participants on July 13th, 6:00-7:00.
Participation in the face-to-face is not
mandatory, but strongly recommended. A tutorial
will be available for those who cannot attend.
• Each week we will
post a couple of new discussion questions
related to the suggested readings for that week.
Some of the reading will come from a book (it
will be the responsibility of the participants
to acquire the book) and there may also be links
to articles, web sites, videos, etc.
Participants can respond to one or both
questions, and likewise respond to as many other
posts as they like. The posts on the
discussion board will be visible to all. If
participants wish to ask questions or share
thoughts with the facilitators alone, they will
have the option to do so through the journal
entry.
• Participants can put
as much or little into it as they like; a
reasonable expectation would be 2-3 hours per
week. After the face-to-face, all work is
completed online at the leisure of the
participant, though each week will begin a new
topic. Once the week is complete,
facilitators will move on to the next topic and
will not be posting in previous discussions,
though they will remain available for
participants to revisit if they so wish.
• The cost of the
class is $65. Those interested in
participating can e-mail Penelope Heinigk (pheinigk@jeffco.k12.co.us).
I will return e-mails in order received with a
seat number and information on where to send
payment (they will be sending a check to me at
Quail made out to Jefferson County School
District). Payment should be received by
June 25th. Those who do not get a seat
will be put on a wait list; any seats that have
not been paid for by June 25th will be offered,
in order of request, to those on the wait list.
• There are limited
scholarships available for those in need.
Information available upon inquiry.
