    SAC was created by the State Board of Education in 1984 to inform and make recommendations to the Board about matters influencing gifted student learning and growth. SAC members are representatives of stakeholder groups in the gifted and talented education community and include community members, educators and parents from all of Colorado’s congressional districts. SAC meets four times a year to provide a forum for members to work together to identify, study, and prepare recommendations regarding issues affecting Colorado’s gifted and talented students. In addition to SAC’s three standing committees (membership, communication and legislation), sub-committees are formed to study timely and significant topics of interest in Colorado’s gifted education community. SAC advocates for statewide initiatives that support the education of gifted students in Colorado’s public schools.
    5 SENG (Supporting Emotional Needs of the Gifted)
    SENG is dedicated to fostering environments in which gifted adults and children, in all their diversity, understand and accept themselves and are understood, valued, nurtured, and supported by their families, schools, workplaces and communities.
    6 Council for Exceptional Children (CEC): Gifts and Talents
    The Council for Exceptional Children (CEC) is the largest international professional organization dedicated to improving the educational success of individuals with disabilities and/or gifts and talents. CEC advocates for appropriate governmental policies, sets professional standards, provides professional development, advocates for individuals with exceptionalities, and helps professionals obtain conditions and resources necessary for effective professional practice.
    7 American Association for Gifted Children (AAGC)
    The American Association for Gifted Children (AAGC) is the nation's oldest advocacy organization for gifted children. AAGC publishes information for parents, educators and the public only on the web site: www.aagc.org. Publications located on the web site include an occasional series called Working Papers and information on research-based educational practices, including the Javits Research Project, Bright IDEA 2 funded by the US Department of Education to the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction in collaboration with AAGC.

    9 National Association for Gifted Children (NAGC)
    What is a maximum standard and how can we shift the focus in the U.S.?
    For over 50 years, NAGC has worked to increase public awareness about these key questions about these questions and to affect positive change.

    The 8,000+ members of NAGC work on behalf of these 3,000,000 students who represent a good portion of the oft-heralded "pipeline of talent." Luis J. Rodriguez, an award-winning author and Chicano activist once said "It is not enough to prepare our children for the world; we also must prepare the world for our children." We owe it to ourselves and to future generations to help prepare the world of education for gifted students. Thus, NAGC invests all of its resources to train teachers, encourage parents and educate administrators and policymakers on how to develop and support gifted children and what's at stake if high-potential learners are not challenged and encouraged.
    10 Colorado Association for Gifted and Talented (CAGT)
    The Colorado Association for Gifted and Talented (CAGT) is a non-profit, tax-exempt organization of parents, educators, and others interested in promoting appropriate education, including creative and critical thinking, for gifted and talented children, while seeking public recognition and support for the special needs of gifted and talented children. By joining CAGT you add your voice to the statewide efforts to support gifted education. Your membership includes the quarterly newsletter, The Kaleidoscope which provides up-to-date information on local events, state issues and current research. Annual membership runs from September 1 through August 31.

    JAGC is a local affiliate of CAGT and your membership of one organization includes membership of the other.
    11 Fast Facts: Administrative Unit GT Program Plan
    A Program Plan is a concisely written
    description of the policy and methods by which an
    administrative unit identifies and programs for gifted
    student education. The elements that must be
    addressed in a Program Plan are based upon ECEA statute and criteria established by Rules
    promulgated by the State Board of Education and any criteria for accreditation . Rules support national standards and best practices in gifted education. The gifted education director/coordinator works collaboratively with stakeholders, often in an advisory committee, to determine the methods and descriptions required for
    each Program Plan element within the administrative unit.

    The Colorado Dept. of Education has provided a "Fast Fact" sheet to inform educators and parents about specific topics through a summary of the key ideas and suggestions that pertain to each topic. This Fast Fact sheet is a good starting point to learn about frequently asked questions about GT Program Plans in your district!
    12 Association for the Education of Underachieving Gifted Sutdents (AEGUS)
    For over 19 years, AEGUS has provided a forum for ideas and interventions aimed at helping twice-exceptional students reach their full and considerable potential. With members worldwide, they use their newsletter, position papers, bibliographies, resource directory, and annual and regional conferences to further these educational goals.

    On December 9th Judge Sheila Rappaport ruled in favor of the Lobato Trial plaintiffs, finding that Colorado is not complying with the constitutional right of every child to a "thorough and uniform system of free public schools."

    Crows and parrots are both very intelligent. A study was done to to compare how birds of both species dealt with the identical problems. The results provide insight as to how body types, environments and even "personality" impact the ways intelligence reveals itself.
