    JAGC "Gifted Exchange" Support Group

    Plan on joining JAGC and members of the Jeffco Gifted and Talented community every third Tuesday of the month for sharing about a GT topic of interest in a relaxed, supportive environment. Family members, educators and other stakeholders all welcome!

    For May the suggested reading is SENG's "Tips for Parents of Intense Children" by Sharon Lind. Of course, there will be great GT discussion even if we veer off topic.

    10th International Dabrowski Conference

    Theme: From Conflict to Peace,Globally and Personally
    Hosted by R. Frank Falk, Ph.D and Linda K. Silverman, Ph.D.

    This is the next in a series of biennial international and interdisciplinary conferences on Dabrowski’s theory of Positive Disintegration. Dabrowski’s theory has been developing since Kazimierz Dabrowski a Polish psychologist and psychiatrist began thinking and writing about it in the 1930s.  Since then, it has become the basis for theoretical, practical, and research applications across diverse disciplines.

    The 10th Annual Dabrowski Congress will be held in Denver, from July 18th through the 21st, at the Curtis Doubletree Hotel. The theme of the Congress is "From Conflict to Peace both Personally and Globally." Over 40 presenters from the United States, Canada, Poland, Australia and The Netherlands, will address development, giftedness, and different aspects of Dabrowski's theory. There will be introductory and advanced sessions, leadership workshops, an international panel, banquet speaker, etc. Topics include overexcitabilities, ethical development, gifted children and adults, twice exceptional children, women writers, temperament, learning style, sensitivity, crisis, inner conflict, loss, poverty, courage, peace, service, religious experience, creativity, poetry, authentic educational practice, classroom strategies and homeschooling. Something for everyone!

    Jeffco SPARKS Summer Camp

    Gifted and Talented classes are being offered this summer to students 4 to 14 years of age, and 7th grade through 12th grade through LifeBound. Jeffco SPARKS is designed based on student age versus grade level, allowing learners the opportunity to participate in classes with intellectual peers as well as age peers.

    CAGT Distinguished Student Award

    Do you know an outstanding student currently in either the 3rd, 4th, 5th or 6th grade? CAGT is please to announce the CAGT Distinguished Student Award for the 2011-2012 school year. Originally funded by the Nicholas Green Foundation and NAGC, this awards program is designed to recognise distinguished achievement in academics, leadership, or the arts. One child for the state of Colorado will be named CAGT Distinguished Student and that winner receives a $500 U.S. savings bond and a CAGT Certificate of Excellence.     NAGC Convention & Parent Day

    Registration is now open!

    Information about the National Convention, coming to Denver (Nov 15-18) is here, with more to come. There are special group rates if registering for the convention as a group of 10 or more. Parents, counselors, and other GT advocates may attend the convention--plan now to attend the convention together!

    Registration
    for Parent Day (Nov 17) is open. A FULL day, overlapping with national convention and taking advantage of the expertise brought to Denver. Registration is $110 for individuals and $175 for two adults from the same household and includes all day events, lunch, complimentary CAGT and NAGC parent memberships for one year. (CAGT membership includes membership to your local Colorado affiliate--for example, JAGC). The schedule is forthcoming. Teachers, please join us for the ALM Institute and bring middle school and high school students with you (1 to 3 students per teacher). When you return to your classroom in the fall, you will have 1 to 3 students who will understand the ALM and will be a part of the ALM process.

    Quill Kids Summer Camps

    Quill Kids is a recreational program based in Denver, Colorado, that guides budding authors ages 6 to 13, through a challenging yet rewarding experience of creative and non-fiction writing. Our goal is to introduce excitement and understanding to the writing process, in an informal group setting, using innovative techniques that make putting words on paper naturally easy and fun. 

    2012 Camp sessions are Monday-Thursday, 9:00-12:00.
    All supplies and a snack are provided
    .

    East Denver;   June 16-21, Stapleton, Central Park
    South Denver; July 9-12,  Lone Tree, Brunzwick Zone Bowling
    West Denver;   July 30-Aug 2,
