Support Jeffco GT in Current Budget Crisis
Dear GT Families:
Do you remember how hard you tried to explain to your teacher that Johnny needed something more challenging in class?
We fought hard to have a Gifted and Talented program for our advanced learners and fought even harder to have this available at every school, no matter where Johnny lived and how much his parents earned.
I am asking you NOT to take GT education for granted.
You’ve been told that “it’s the law” and that the district is mandated to offer it to every identified student. You’ll be promised “enhanced” and “advanced learning,” all with great intentions but not necessarily offered at your community school anymore.
Our district budget is being severely cut due to the COVID-19 crisis. No one is to blame for this. But Everything Is On The Table. All programs, teachers, staff and actual schools.
I am urging you to contact your principal, superintendent and school board members. Share with them how the GT program not only nurtures your child’s thirst for a challenging education but also addresses their mental health needs.
Decisions are days away...Who is advocating for your GT student?
